FIRE DRILL AT FPR

March 12, 2008 Ford Performance Racing drafted in the Metropolitan Fire and Emergency Services Board for assistance today as it works to ascertain what can be salvaged from Steven Richards wrecked Castrol FPR Falcon.

Cutting the shell apart would have taken the crew hours using a grinder and flame cutter, but with the assistance of the MFB’s ‘Jaws of Life,’ cutting equipment, the car was in pieces within just minutes.

“We normally use them for cutting people out of car accidents,” said Thomas Town’s Leading Fire Fighter, Dave Hastilow, who is a devoted Ford fan. “It took us quite a while to pull the Falcon to bits because we’re trying not to do any further damage to the engine. Normally, if we wanted to rip it open, it wouldn’t take too long at all without worrying about the consequences to the car.”

Hastilow was watching last weekend’s race three at Eastern Creek on Channel 7 when Richards hit the wall at 160khp. “I was just hoping Richo was going to be all right,” he said. “We see quite a few car accidents in our line of work, but that one was quite a hit.”
