Richo gives FG Supercar the thumbs up

Release date: 06/06/2008 Ford Performance Racings Steven Richards has wholeheartedly backed Fords new FG Supercar.

Richards, who was the first V8 Supercar driver to test the car named FG01, said it “looks absolutely fantastic”.

“Without a doubt it’s the best looking V8 Supercar I’ve seen,” he said.

Richards tested the car at Ford’s proving ground in the You Yangs last Thursday, Friday and again on Tuesday.

He said it was hard to compare the FG to the BA or BF.

“All we’ve been doing is shaking the car down and going through the homologation.

“Everything has gone really well and we haven’t had any issues with it.”

FPR was the Ford team that completed the overall design and build of the FG.

Richo wasn’t exactly sure why he was offered the first drive in the car, but he said he was glad.

“The car has been built at FPR so it makes sense that someone at FPR gave it a go,” he said.

“I must say I’m fairly honoured to be doing the initial shakedown.”

FPR Team Principle Tim Edwards, who was intricately involved in the project, said the FG signified a fresh look for Ford in V8 Supercars.

“The best way to describe it is that it's much more aggressive; I think everyone will be really pleased,” Edwards said.

“It’s been an 18-month project since we started design at the beginning of 2007, and last week we were still putting the pieces together, so it’s a rewarding feeling for everyone to see it turn its first wheels.

“FPR has invested a lot of time and intellectual property into the car for the benefit of all Ford teams.

“This is absolutely a new toy for the Ford teams; everyone should be excited about seeing it and we hope they’re pleased with what we’ve achieved.”
